The Sunday after Thanksgiving we went out to get our Christmas tree. We went to Booger Mountain on Lynn Road – that’s where we always go.

We got the tree home and installed – Billy gave it a close inspection before we got the OK to start decorating it.

We strung up the lights and then decorated the tree a few days later.

We got lots of “help” from the cats. There was only one ornament casualty during the tree trimming exercise – a glass ball shattered when Cayce pounced on it.

We strung up the popcorn garland I made last year and we were done! There’s a bit of a dark spot in the middle, but oh well.

PsychoBilly

Look at this creepy picture Dave took of Billy
Wedneday nights are yoga nights for me, so it’s Dave’s night to cook. I pulled a package of precooked chicken sausages out of the freezer, then looked through the vegetable drawer to see what was left. I gave him a carrot, a parsnip, and a yellow bell pepper and told him to make dinner. I was imagining that he’d throw them on the grill and it would be OK but nothing fancy. I was astonished when he served me the grilled sausages along with these wonderful vegetables. He chopped them up, along with some onion and mushroom, and put them all in a little foil packet on the grill. Everything was heavenly.

And he acts like he can’t cook!
It’s my blog so I get to post this cute picture of me.

And here’s my nephew Jonah being adorable:

Nephew Time!

My nephew is cuter than your nephew. Nolan is one month old and just a cute little peanut!

See?

OK, I’ll admit it, I’m hooked. I’m obsessed. I’m addicted! I *love* threading. Love it!

What, you may ask, is threading? It’s an ancient Indian art of hair removal using… thread, imagine that. 🙂 It’s very quick, mostly painless, and much more precise than waxing. It doesn’t irritate or burn your skin like waxing can. It’s also typically cheap, under $10.

If you don’t live in a big city, it may be hard to find a salon that offers threading. If you live somewhere like that (like here in Raleigh), your best bet is to start asking Indian women where they go to get it done. You’ll likely find a woman who runs a salon out of her basement or extra room in her house.

Shilpa, the woman I go to, used to have this sweet salon set up in her basement but got tired of all the traffic in and out of her house. She recently opened up a real salon in a little strip mall on Chatham Street.

If you like meticulously groomed ‘brows and think you might like to try an alternative to waxing or plucking, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Go visit Shilpa’s website: http://www.trianglesalon.com/

Wine Tasting Party

Our neighbors Chantal and Derrick invited us over to their annual wine-tasting party last night. Everybody brings two bottles of the same wine and an appetizer. The wines are all placed in paper bags and you get to sample liberally, rating each wine as you go. At the end of the night, all of the scores are tallied and the winner receives a prize, though I don’t know what the prize was.
The winner of the reds was Lindeman’s Bin 50 Shiraz – a great, easy to drink wine with a lot of flavor. Our favorite was the BV Coastal Estates Pinot Noir. The Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc I brought did not win among the three whites that were there – too strong in flavor plus most people skipped the whites in favor of the reds.
I did, however, look very cute! I wore my birthday present, a new shirt from Jan, and I did my hair in loose curls.

Pretty Purse

I picked up this purse at an art festival in Holden Beach, NC a few weeks ago. It’s a hand-crafted fabric purse – very good quality fabrics and nice stitching. The best part? It was $15. You can’t get a bag from Target for this price, and so many of the purses you see out there these days just look so unattractive.

Interested? Her name is Carol Langer and though she doesn’t have a website, she does have the old-fashioned phone number: 910-232-7887. She’s out of Wilmington, NC and I bet she’ll make you a custom bag you’re sure to love!

Sci Fi Book Cover

Help me come up with a creative name for this book cover:

If you know me, you know I love V for Vendetta. My husband got me the DVD for my birthday, and it came with a special edition miniature Guy Fawkes mask. How cool is that?

I made Cayce wear the mask. 🙂
