We recently celebrated Granma Jo’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Granma Jo!

It helps me to say these things aloud, I think.

Henry has just turned two. It is hard to believe how much time has passed. He is such a fabulous little boy and really a source of joy in our lives. When he’s not acting like the devil, of course.

Here’s the statistical update from his two-year checkup.
His personality is really starting to shine through. He is a sweet-natured boy with a tendency to be a bit shy, but once he’s warmed up can be a little hard to contain. He is learning manners, learning to share, learning to speak in sentences, learning to count, even learning to be potty trained with the help of his new teachers.
Some of his favorite things include airplanes, trucks and cars, animals, and playgrounds. Pretty standard for most toddlers. He brushes his teeth twice a day like a good boy and puts his dirty laundry in the hamper after his bath. He generally puts his toys away before we go to bed for the night. He loves, loves, loves to read. He has lots of books that he likes, too many to mention.
He is a good eater, not usually too picky. Last week he devoured handfuls of the Tortilla Pie Dave made us for dinner. His favorite foods are black olives, fruit of any kind, avocados, mommy’s homemade tofu smoothies, cheese, pasta, beans. He loves to run, climb and jump. He can be fearless. He adores his daddy and loves his mommy. He is getting longer and leaner each day. He’s slowly turning into a little boy. It’s a bit nerve-wracking, being in control of his development and shaping his future. Dave and I are committed to doing the best we can by him.
Two years ago today, a few hours ago, our little man Henry was born. What a thrilling event! And here we sit on the eve of another little boy’s entrance into the world. It has been such a joy to be able to experience Henry from maternity to his second birthday.
This morning when I went in to get him up, he was sitting in his bed, reading a book to himself. What a little treasure. Happy Birthday, son. We love you so much!!
Dave just celebrated another birthday. Happy Birthday Dave!!!
He and Henry got matching Superman pajamas.

Henry and I got Dave a Carvel ice cream cake, but through a wonderful miscommunication, Dave ended up making himself an angel food cake, too. As a pregnant wife, I think that’s awesome. ![]()

Happy birthday to my favorite person ever!
Last Saturday was Finn’s 2nd birthday party. Just like his momma, I can’t believe he’s already 2.
The party was a lot of fun with pizza, cupcakes and a real live fire engine! There were about a dozen kids there and it was nice to catch up with some folks I haven’t seen in a while.
Happy Birthday, Finn!! (Sorry, no good photos of the birthday boy.)

Thanks to everyone who sent me Happy Birthday wishes, cards and presents this year! I can’t believe I’m can run for President now.
Thanks to my mom for getting my car detailed, and to my granma for getting me a Caribou gift card and a month’s supply of popcorn!!
And Yay! for Dave who got me this cute little number.

And look what awesomeness Cristin made.

The hat looks as cute on me as it does on Henry.

The best part is that it’s the same color purple that’s in my Dr. Who scarf! FTW!
We were so lucky to have my grandmother (Henry’s great-grandmother) in town for her 84th birthday!! She got to spend lots of quality time with Henry. We even went to the pool one afternoon, it was so relaxing.
Friday was my work-at-home day, so Granma went with Uncle Denny (her brother-in-law) and Aunt Betty out to lunch at her favorite Raleigh restaurant, Kanki. Saturday we got up early and hit the North Raleigh Farmer’s Market with the neighbors. It was pretty hot out so we didn’t stay long.

Then we headed to The Roast Grill, which we had seen featured on a recent episode of Man vs. Food. I knew that Granma loves hot dogs, so I thought we’d check it out. I was in for a surprise when I discovered how incredibly small a place it is. We got our order to go and had yummy hot dogs at home.

Granma spent time with Henry, helping feed him and playing with him in his playroom. She did a real good job of keeping him entertained!

For her birthday on Sunday, my mom joined us for a big dinner in Granma’s honor. My mom brought over balloons, which were a great hit with Henry. She wore herself out playing with Henry and the balloons.

Dinner was sweet potatoes, grilled T-bones and wilted lettuce salad – YUM!

After dinner, Granma got to blow out the candles and enjoy the fabulous cake Dave made, an angel food cake spiked with pineapple and coconut-rum frosting.

Then she opened presents, including the candy she got from Jonathan and Dawn (which was also yummy!).

Here’s Granma saying good-bye to Henry on his way to school on Monday.

It was a great trip and it was so nice to have her here. I love her so much and I’m so happy to be able to spend time with her.
A late shout-out to my buddy Cristin who recently had her last pre-baby birthday. We had a lovely meal at Vivace to celebrate. YUM!
I just can’t believe that Henry is one! It’s amazing how fast time flies. He’s just gone in for his one year checkup and everything seems to be fine. He is 21 pounds, 15 ounces (37th percentile), 30 inches (63rd percentile) and his head is 18.5 inches around (69th percentile). He has dropped in weight percentile, but shot up in the length and head circumference categories. He’s going to be skinny, smart and tall. Sound like someone you know?
It’s helpful to inventory milestones and it’s been a while since I have, so here’s what he’s up to these days.
OK, that’s all I can think of to add for now. He’s just the cutest little thing you’ve ever seen. I feel like someone slipped me a Mickey because I know he can’t possibly be the world’s cutest baby, can he…? But when I look at him, all bets are off. I love to see his sweet face at the end of a long day, and hold him when he’s tired. I like to watch him sleep. This whole motherhood thing is an amazing trip. It’s impossible to describe without having been through it. I just widen my eyes in surprise every day at the feelings I feel and the wonder of it all. I can’t believe a year with him has already come and gone.
