Meals & Food

Food, meals, etc.

For the holiday, we’ve got Dave’s parents here and Granma as well. Yay for Mom and Gene, who drove up to Virginia Beach on Wednesday and brought Granma back!

It has been such a beautiful day out! The weather was perfect! We spent a few hours on the front porch enjoying the day.
TGiving07-04

The cats got to enjoy the lovely weather, as well, with a mega-dose of outdoor time on the front lawn, eating grass and chasing leaves in the wind.

Several hours later, we sat down to a lovely Thanksgiving day meal. We had turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green beans, cranberries and chopped salad.

After lovely massages on Friday afternoon and a lovely dinner at Irregardless Cafe Friday, we got up on Saturday morning for a traditional breakfast at Waffle.

Look at the lovely spread Tyra and I had last night for her sleepover!

What a fun Friday night I had! Cristin came over after work and we decided it was good enough weather to attempt to recreate the back cover of Ziggy Stardust. It took us over an hour to get ready and we were so dolled up by the time we left the house! We headed up to Brier Creek for the photo shoot as we needed one of those red British telephone boxes. Imagine our dismay when we discovered that the damn doors don’t open! What? Why?!?!? I was so annoyed I was laughing.

Regardless, we looked hot. So we went to Champa for sushi dinner. Yum.

After dinner, we met up with Kerri and went to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show. More on that to come!

The star of the show, of course, is little Evan. We spent the weekend entertaining him and he is just cute as a button. He is a water baby and loved time with the pool and the hose. While we were there, he ate his first piece of meat (deli turkey), had his first piece of toast, and said his first word (cow). He is definitely a handful but clearly a delight to his proud mama and papa. Speaking of which, here are our happy hosts at our lunch at the Salt Lick, an Austin-area institution.

I think this site should have some kind of R or X rating, it whets the appetite so…

Proof that you shouldn’t do Sudoku, even a gentle one, at 6 AM when you’ve had only four hours of sleep.

The inflight status tracker was very accurate, including the two circles we made to kill time because we arrived early.

Thursday night, I arrived around 8 PM and caught the 2 1/2 hour coach up to Cambridge. Alba met me at the bus station and we took a cab home. Then we went to sleep!

Friday morning, she made me a lovely breakfast with coffee, fresh fruit and eggs.

Friday Breakfast

Name: BONE

We had dinner at Ted’s Montana Grill recently. The service was really nice, and the food was pretty tasty. I liked their menu selection. I had the fillet and Dave had the burger.

Dave has this bad habit of always getting something unpleasantly crunchy in his food when he least expects it, and this night was no exception. Rather than just being annoyed and declaring we’d never go back, he brought this bit of gristle to the attention of the waiter.

We were surprised when the kitchen manager came out and explained its existence to us. She told us that it’s rare, but it does happen, that a small piece of bone gets ground up with the meat. She apologized and inquired into Dave’s dental health. All in all, I thought they did a good job of responding to our complaint. They also comped Dave’s dinner. Bone

Mini-Burgers

Tonight we made mini turkey burgers for dinner. Each burger was about silver dollar sized, seasoned and cooked on the grill. They were served on party potato rolls and topped with a spinach leaf, a slice of roma tomato, a slice of Vidalia onion and a strip of fresh grilled sweet orange pepper.

Tasty and cute!

With Dave gone, I think I’m a little down and less motivated. I haven’t been very inclined to cook for myself, which I have managed to do in the past when he’s gone. On the way home I knew I had to stop at the grocery if I was going to have any chance of eating a decent meal over the next few days. On spur of the moment, I stopped at Earthfare to get my groceries tonight. I figure I’ve been stress-eating lately, I’d be more productive if I stress-bought!

Here is proof of Dave’s theory that “organic” is code for more expensive.
