Steamed!

I’ve been cleaning.
I decided to steam clean the bonus and the living room in preparation for Eric and Amber’s visit. E&A have never been to visit us before, so this is exciting stuff! I want the house to look nice when they arrive. Besides that, the carpet really needed some love.

I steam cleaned the bonus and part of the living room on Sunday. I did the rest of the living room tonight, after Dave and I rearranged the furniture. I also vacuumed the furniture and the stairs.

Dave was productive on Sunday as well. He re-sisal-ed the cat tree and the scratching post, and gave the cat tree a most thorough vacuuming.

Saturday morning we went to the Farmer’s Market, and returned home with two 1-gal. Jasmines, some assorted plants for front-porch pots, and two large hanging plants for the front porch. So pretty! We also got fresh tomatoes, white “Jersey” sweet potatoes and strawberries. We got the front-porch pots and the jasmines planted on Saturday before heading downtown to Artsplosure at 4.

I also stopped by Expressions and picked out the fabric for my chair. This is not, I repeat, not my chair, but it does give a good idea of how my chair will look. Except my chair will have pink welt cord!! I’m so excited. It surprised me how much I like this fabric, but it’s a perfect match for the colors in the rug, and it won’t compete with the florals in the rug, and it’s not solid which is boring. I am very excited and hope to see my new chair in about 45 days.

We’re redoing our formal living room. Actually, that’s not really accurate since there’s never been anything in it since we moved in. I am so excited we’ve started decorating this room. It’s on the front of the house and gets very wonderful sunlight in the mornings, so we wanted a place where we could take advantage of the light for reading and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Last weekend we ordered Dave’s chair. It’s an extremely comfortable swivel glider recliner. I don’t think this picture does it justice but here it is. We got it from Norwalk Furniture Idea which makes Dave happy because that means it’s being built in Ohio! Tonight I ordered the rug. I had found it at Norwalk and fell in love with it, and was very surprised to see it for 75% of their price online. I got it from www.RugSale.com.
Sometime soon, I’ll go pick out the fabric for my chair. I am getting my chair from Expressions Furniture. It is a swivel glider and I’ll get the ottoman to match. I can’t wait!! I’m still deciding on the fabric I want to match with the other pieces in the room.
Oh, we also got the coffee table at Ikea a few weekends ago.
I can’t wait until we have actual pictures to show you!!

We bought a coffee table at Ikea!! Check it out.

Our fancy coffee table that is perfect for jigsaw puzzles came in a big flat cardboard box!! We haven’t gotten a cat in the lower part of the table yet…

We planted some dahlia’s and mums in our back bed. We dug down deep and built up the bed using stones as a border.

We were exhausted but happy with our efforts!

Mulching!

Dad got some more mulch layed out today – there’s only a little bit left to distribute.

Mulch Masters?

Monday we had 10 yards of mulch delivered to our driveway. Dave and his dad spent a few hours in the afternoon spreading it around the flower beds.

I, of course, took it easy.

Dave’s Dad arrived on Saturday afternoon, and we put him right to work when he got here!

We had a rather big project but it went fairly smoothly. We started around 4 and finished up around 6:30 PM.

We have a fairly extensive bird feeder system out back of our house, and the azalea bushes below the feeders were getting covered in bird poop. We also had some of the bird seed spouting in the mulch under the bushes which we always had to pull out by hand. It was annoying and didn’t look very good, so we decided to relocate the azalea bushes to a different part of the bed.

Here’s what they look like in their new location:

We had to take several breaks during the transplanting process so that the bluebird mommy and daddy could come back to the bluebird house and feed the babies.

After we moved the azalea bushes, we filled in the holes where they were and covered the area with gravel. We’re hoping the multicolored gravel will hide the bird poop better and prevent the seeds from being able to germinate. Later this week, we’re going to get more mulch and pretty it up a bit so it doesn’t look so severe.

Closet Re-org

Friday was a day off for Dave and I. We had planned to work out in the yard all weekend, but several things came up to throw us off our game.

First, Tyra and Mike invited us to the Carolina Brewing Company for their free beer tour. How could we say no? Then, the weather turned cold and I said no to working outside in these temperatures.
Instead, we spent Friday cleaning out our bedroom closet. Dave found lots of stuff to give away, and so did I. We cleaned and reorganized the whole thing. I even moved my sweaters to the back of my closet. Here’s my shelf now:
